Description
The Michell TecnoDec is a turntable that draws on several technical elements developed for the GyroDec, the British brand's higher-end model. It serves as an entry point into the Michell range, while retaining components taken from a well-regarded model.
The low-noise direct current motor and the impedance-matched platter come directly from the GyroDec, as does the point bearing on which the platter spindle rests. These elements are mounted on a solid plinth, resting on damped feet designed to limit the transmission of external vibrations to the cartridge.
Michell states that the TecnoDec requires no user set-up or particular maintenance, which sets it apart from turntables with suspension or more complex adjustments, where the user must regularly intervene on the platter levelling or suspension tension.
This turntable is aimed at a user who wishes to enter the Michell world without having to manage fine adjustments, while benefiting from a motor and platter shared with a higher model from the brand. It is offered either bare, without tonearm or cartridge, or fitted with a Rega T2 tonearm and a Goldring M3 MM cartridge, for an installation that is ready to use.

What to check before buying used
The point bearing on which the platter spindle rests should rotate without play or friction noise, a sign of wear or lack of lubrication. The direct current motor is worth listening to with no record playing: a humming sound or speed variations often indicate bearing wear. The plinth's damped feet should retain their original suppleness, otherwise vibrations may reach the cartridge. If the unit is fitted with a Rega T2 tonearm, check the tonearm's freedom of movement and the condition of its wiring.
