MoFi MasterTracker

The MasterTracker is an MM (moving-magnet) cartridge designed by MoFi, standard 1/2 inch mount, intended for fitting to a tonearm on a turntable. It draws on Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's experience in record cutting: its design stems directly from the observation of a cutting lathe, the tool that engraves the grooves at the origin of every vinyl recording.

Its dual-magnet V-Twin generator mirrors the layout of the cutting head that engraves the grooves: two low-mass magnets are aligned in a V formation, parallel to the record's grooves. This architecture aims to match the playback geometry to that of the cutting process. The cartridge uses a Micro Line cut diamond, a fine profile capable of tracking the details inscribed in the groove more precisely. The body is made from 6061 aluminium alloy and the coils from PCOCC copper, two material choices that contribute to the assembly's rigidity and the quality of the transmitted signal.

In terms of measured values, the MasterTracker offers a frequency response of 20 Hz to 25 kHz, a recommended load impedance of 47 kOhms and a capacitance of 100 pF, parameters that must be respected to correctly match it to the phono stage used. The output level of 3.0 mV corresponds to the standards of MM phono inputs. The recommended tracking force is between 1.8 and 2.2 g, and the cartridge weighs 9.7 g.

This cartridge is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts equipped with a compatible tonearm and MM phono stage, seeking faithful playback and good groove-tracking capability, particularly on pressings demanding in dynamics or detail.
