Description
The StudioDeck is one of the first two turntables designed by MoFi, an American brand recognised for the mastering quality of its albums. Designed and manufactured in the United States with local companies, it is fitted with a dedicated 10-inch (25.4 cm) MoFi tonearm, intended to offer optimal balance and low tracking error when playing grooves.
Drive is by belt, via a high-torque synchronous motor, and the platter is made from 19 mm Delrin, a material valued for its resistance, hardness and ability to dissipate vibrations rather than transmit them to the cartridge. The MDF chassis and hardened steel bearing contribute to the mechanical stability of the assembly, while the isolation devices were designed by Michael Latvis, of Harmonic Resolution Systems, a company specialising in protecting audio systems from external vibrations. The aluminium tonearm has an overhang of 1.9 cm and an offset angle of 22.8° adjustable by ± 2°, for an effective mass of 35 grams (± 0.5 g), allowing the use of cartridges of different weights.
With wow of 0.017 %, flutter of 0.025 % and a signal-to-noise ratio of 72 dB, the StudioDeck plays speeds of 33.3 and 45 rpm. It is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts seeking a high-end turntable designed by recognised specialists in the field, including Allen Perkins, founder and chief engineer of Spiral Groove, who took part in its development.

What to check before buying used
On this type of belt-drive turntable, the flexibility of the belt is worth checking, as ageing or cracking directly affects speed stability. The tonearm's offset angle and overhang settings should be checked after any transport or reassembly, as these parameters are adjustable on this unit. It is also worth ensuring that the original isolation system, designed by Harmonic Resolution Systems, is complete and functional, as well as checking the condition of the fitted cartridge, sold separately depending on the model chosen.
