MoFi StudioPhono

The StudioPhono is a phono preamplifier from MoFi, designed to receive the signal from an MM or MC cartridge and amplify it to a line level usable by an integrated amplifier or a conventional preamplifier. It is a dedicated unit, to be placed between the turntable and the rest of the hi-fi system.

Its total harmonic distortion is stated at 0.01 % on the MM input and 0.012 % on the MC input, low values which reflect a signal amplified with few artefacts added by the electronics themselves. Gain is adjustable across two positions, 40 or 66 dB, allowing amplification to be matched to the sensitivity of the cartridge used, an MC cartridge generally requiring higher gain than an MM cartridge. Load impedance is also adjustable: fixed at 47 kOhms in MM, it can be selected from six values in MC (75, 100, 500, 1k, 10k or 47 kOhms), a setting that directly affects the tonal balance and frequency response produced depending on the cartridge fitted.

With its compact dimensions of 10 x 17 x 3.2 cm, the StudioPhono fits easily into a hi-fi cabinet without requiring a large dedicated space.

This preamplifier is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts who already own an amplifier or preamplifier without a phono input, or who wish to replace a built-in phono stage with a more adjustable external solution.
