Description
The UltraDeck is a turntable designed and manufactured in the United States by MoFi, a brand known for its carefully mastered vinyl editions. This turntable is one of the brand's first two turntable models, developed after two years of work, alongside the StudioDeck. It relies on belt drive and a dedicated 10-inch (25.4 cm) tonearm, designed specifically to equip MoFi turntables.
The platter is made from Delrin, a material chosen for its high resistance, hardness and ability to dissipate vibrations rather than transmit them to the cartridge. The chassis is made of MDF and the tonearm, made of aluminium, features an overhang of 1.9 cm and an offset angle of 22.8°, adjustable over a range of ± 2° to fine-tune the geometric setup. The bearing is made of hardened steel and the tonearm cabling is by Cardas. The synchronous motor, stated to offer high torque, drives the platter at speeds of 33.3 and 45 rpm. In terms of measurements, MoFi states a wow of 0.017%, a flutter of 0.025% and a signal-to-noise ratio of 74 dB.
The design of the tonearm and the turntable as a whole benefited from the involvement of Allen Perkins, founder and chief engineer of Spiral Groove, a company recognised for its design of high-end turntables.
The UltraDeck is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts wanting a turntable capable of accommodating a quality cartridge, within a range of MoFi cartridges spanning from the StudioTracker to the MasterTracker. It will suit a setup where the source takes centre stage, paired with a system capable of reproducing the detail that this type of turntable seeks to preserve.

What to check before buying used
The Cardas tonearm cabling and the connections to the cartridge warrant a visual check, as does the condition of the drive belt, which is prone to hardening over time. The tonearm's geometric setup (overhang and offset angle) should be checked, as one unit may have been misaligned during reassembly. The Delrin platter holds up well to handling, but an inspection of the hardened steel bearing rules out any play or abnormal noise during rotation.
