The Gold 100 6G is a three-way bookshelf speaker from Monitor Audio, designed to deliver deep bass along with realistic definition of midrange and treble. It belongs to the new Gold Series 6G generation, designed to blend discreetly into a living space while ensuring faithful sound reproduction.
This speaker features the very latest MPD III treble transducer, a 7.6 cm HDT C-CAM midrange driver and a 20.3 cm (8-inch) woofer. The whole design relies on HDT (Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology), a new metal cone that draws on the principles of the RDT III cones found in the Hyphn and Platinum ranges: a Nomex honeycomb layer sandwiched between aluminium and carbon fibre skins. The hexagonal pattern of the HDT cone is designed to break up symmetries as it fragments, a parameter that directly affects sound accuracy.
The cabinet features a bass-reflex design with HiVe II technology, combined with carefully considered geometry and reinforcement techniques intended to provide a rigid structure, a necessary condition for the drivers to fully express their potential. The gloss lacquer finish and synthetic veneer complete a construction conceived as an integral part of the acoustic system.

What to check before buying used
The surrounds of the woofers and midrange drivers deserve careful inspection, as the foam or rubber can harden or crack over time and affect bass performance. The hexagonal HDT C-CAM cone must be free of impacts, dents or signs of corrosion, as must the dome of the MPD III transducer, which is particularly fragile to the touch. Also check the cabinet: corners, veneer and bass-reflex ports must show no chips or warping. Finally, make sure the magnetic grilles are present and fit securely on both speakers of the pair.
