Description
The Music Hall MMF 3.3 is a belt-driven turntable, built around the brand's characteristic double-plinth architecture. This two-part chassis separates the electronics and motor from the main sub-chassis supporting the bearing and tonearm, with the aim of limiting vibration transmission to the cartridge. The unit is supplied with a tonearm, an already mounted cartridge and a dust cover.
Speed control is electronic for 33 and 45 rpm, selectable at the touch of a button. Switching to 78 rpm, however, requires manual intervention: moving the belt to a different pulley diameter and changing the belt, with a second belt supplied for this purpose. The DC motor, isolated on the lower plinth, is intended to provide enhanced speed stability compared with a motor fixed directly to the platter.
The tonearm is a component specific to Music Hall: a carbon fibre tube is bonded to an alloy headshell, a construction intended to stiffen the assembly and limit the torsion and flex that can be observed on one-piece carbon arms. This rigidity has a direct bearing on the cartridge's ability to track the record groove correctly. The arm sits on a 4-point gimbal bearing fitted with Swiss ABEC bearings, a solution the brand presents as superior to the 2-point systems used on certain competing models. The internal arm wire is made of high-purity copper, and the counterweight is shaped so that its centre of gravity sits at the level of the stylus tip, while being decoupled from the arm to act as a resonance damper.
The main bearing combines stainless steel and high-precision bronze, for what is intended to be quiet operation. The platter is a full-size alloy unit, covered with a felt mat, and rests on adjustable feet designed to damp vibrations. The connections comprise gold-plated RCA sockets with detachable phono cable.
This type of turntable is aimed at an enthusiast discovering or returning to vinyl who wants a well-engineered tonearm and an already fitted cartridge, without having to build their own playback chain piece by piece. Set-up is described as simple and quick, making it suitable both as a first serious turntable and as an addition to an existing system.

What to check before buying used
The originally mounted cartridge should be checked for wear before any prolonged listening, as the stylus tip is the first part to deteriorate. The drive belt can stretch or harden over time, causing wow or unstable speed, particularly after prolonged storage. Checking the tonearm and its gimbal bearing for play is worthwhile, and the alignment of the two plinths should be checked to preserve the vibration isolation specific to this chassis.
