Description
The Music Hall MMF 5.3 is a belt-driven turntable designed to minimise the parasitic vibrations that can affect record playback. It is distinguished by a construction using two separate plinths, allowing the components sensitive to vibration to be separated from the motor elements.
The platter, transmission bearing and tonearm rest on the upper plinth, while the motor, switch and cables are installed on the lower plinth. These two levels are connected by isolating pads made from a visco-elastic material, forming a decoupled double-layer plinth. The whole assembly rests on four anti-vibration feet with adjustable height, with a spirit level built into the plinth to make levelling easier during installation.
The asynchronous motor drives the platter via belt through a high-quality bearing, ensuring smooth and quiet rotation. Speed changes between 33.3 and 45 rpm are carried out manually, by moving the belt on the transmission pulley. The tonearm, a straight 9-inch Pro-Ject model, is made from carbon fibre to minimise any mechanical play; its wiring uses OFC conductors, and its counterweight, whose centre of gravity is aligned with the stylus tip, is decoupled from the tonearm for improved vibration damping.
The turntable is supplied fitted with an Ortofon 2M Blue moving-magnet cartridge, pre-mounted and aligned at the factory, allowing immediate use with no further adjustment. The platter, made from an anti-resonance alloy, weighs 2.7 kg to promote inertia and rotational stability; it is covered with a felt mat. A dust cover and a 45 rpm record adaptor complete the set.
This turntable is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts seeking a carefully engineered setup, capable of reproducing records with precision thanks to its already-aligned cartridge and carbon fibre tonearm. It suits both a first high-end turntable and an installation upgrade demanding mechanical stability.

What to check before buying used
The carbon fibre Pro-Ject tonearm should remain free of play in its bearings, and the condition of the fitted cartridge (stylus tip, suspension) is worth checking before any extended listening. The drive belt, a wear part subject to ageing, may stretch or crack over time and cause speed variations. It is also advisable to check the suppleness of the visco-elastic pads between the two plinths, which ensure anti-vibration decoupling, as well as the correct adjustment of the four height-adjustable feet.
