Description
The Music Hall MMF 7.3 is a belt-drive turntable, built around a double-plinth principle designed to limit the transmission of vibrations to the cartridge. The upper part of the chassis is isolated from the lower part by sorbothane orbs, a damping visco-elastic material, mechanically decoupling the sensitive elements of the turntable.
The motor, powered by an external supply, sits in a cutout at the front left of the plinth, diagonally opposite the tonearm. This arrangement moves the source of belt vibration away from the point of playback, while making use of the tonearm's length to absorb any remaining residual vibration. The plinth rests on three feet fitted with decoupling spikes, supplied with their counter-plates, and a built-in spirit level makes levelling easier during setup.
The tonearm is a Pro-Ject model made from monobloc carbon, a material chosen for its lightness and rigidity, reducing the risk of resonance or mechanical play. Speed change between 33.3 and 45 rpm is carried out manually, by moving the belt on the drive pulley. The platter is acrylic, a material chosen for its inertia and low inherent resonance. The turntable offers a speed variation of ±0.1%, wow and flutter of ±0.01%, and a signal-to-noise ratio of -72 dB.
This turntable is aimed at a user already familiar with vinyl listening, seeking a well-engineered mechanical base and a quality tonearm, though not yet fitted with a dedicated cartridge, as this is mounted according to the configuration chosen at the time of purchase. It suits an installation where mechanical stability and quiet operation are priorities, thanks in particular to the high-quality bearing ensuring smooth platter rotation.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the drive belt, which is prone to wear and loss of elasticity over time, as well as the alignment and condition of the cartridge fitted to the tonearm, a key factor in playback quality. The sorbothane orbs of the double plinth also deserve a visual check, as this material can harden or crack over the years, reducing its damping capability. Finally, it is worth checking that the built-in spirit level works correctly and that the decoupling spikes and their counter-plates are intact, along with the presence of the detachable phono cable and original accessories.
