Description
The Music Hall PA1.2 is a phono preamplifier dedicated to amplifying the weak signal from a turntable cartridge before sending it to an amplifier or hi-fi system. It is inserted between the turntable and the line input of an amplifier that does not have a dedicated phono input.
This model accepts two types of cartridges: moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC), allowing it to be paired with a wide variety of cartridges fitted to turntables. Its aluminium chassis has been designed to limit the effects of stray magnetic fields, an important point for preserving the purity of the phono signal, which is particularly sensitive to electromagnetic interference.
The PA1.2 is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts wishing to improve the sound quality of their turntable, particularly those whose amplifier does not offer a built-in phono input or whose original phono stage remains limited. It is suitable both for an entry-level setup and for a configuration where the user wishes to separate the phono stage from the amplification for greater flexibility.

When buying used, it is worth checking for the absence of background noise, hum or crackling on power-up, which may indicate ageing capacitors or oxidised connections. It is also recommended to check proper operation on both stereo channels, as well as actual compatibility with an MM cartridge and an MC cartridge if the selector allows it, before prolonged use.
