Description
The Nu-Vista Vinyl is a phono preamplifier dedicated to vinyl playback, capable of accommodating five separate inputs, each independently configurable as MM or MC. This architecture allows several turntables or cartridges to be connected simultaneously to the same unit, without compromising the settings between them.
Power supply design is central to its architecture: each channel and each stage has its own power supply, with star earthing and regulated passive filtering. Two mains transformers power the unit, and a dedicated 100 MHz filtering stage attenuates radio-frequency interference from the mains by 40 dB, reducing noise sources even before the signal is amplified. On the MM input, sensitivity is 2.5 mV for 300 mV output, with an impedance of 47 kΩ and a selectable input capacitance from 50 to 400 pF; on the MC input, sensitivity drops to 250 μV with an adjustable impedance from 10 Ω to 47 kΩ and a fixed capacitance of 470 pF. In both cases, total harmonic distortion at 1 kHz remains below 0.01%, overload margin reaches 31 dB, and the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 102 dB on MM and 95 dB on MC. Frequency response follows the RIAA or RIAA/IEC curve depending on the selected setting, with an accuracy of ±0.2 dB.
This preamplifier is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts with several turntables or wishing to compare different MM and MC cartridges without constant reconfiguration. Its RCA and balanced XLR outputs also allow it to be integrated into systems with balanced inputs, for analogue set-ups built around several phono sources.

What to check before buying used
On such an elaborate phono stage, it is worth checking that each of the five inputs functions correctly, along with the reliability of the MM/MC and input capacitance selector switches, mechanical parts subjected to wear each time a cartridge is changed. Checking for the absence of hum or background noise on each channel, as transformers and switching components can age differently, helps confirm that the separate power supplies are still performing their role fully. The RCA and XLR connectors also warrant inspection, particularly on the least-used inputs.
