Description
The NAD M17 V2i is an audio-video preamplifier designed to control a multichannel home cinema installation. It handles the decoding of sound formats, video management and source routing, feeding one or more power amplifiers dedicated to the speakers.
Its distinctive feature lies in the modular MDC design, a method unique to NAD allowing the unit's internal modules to be upgraded over time rather than replacing the whole device. It integrates Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, combined with Dirac Live Room Correction acoustic correction, as well as video processing compatible with UHD 4K HDR and 4:4:4. In terms of measurements, it offers a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, total harmonic distortion below 0.005%, a signal-to-noise ratio above 90 dB and channel separation above 70 dB at 1 kHz and 10 kHz, with a maximum output power of 8 Vrms into 600 ohms.
The connectivity is particularly comprehensive, with eleven XLR outputs (including mini-XLR outputs dedicated to Atmos channels), five HDMI inputs, two HDMI outputs including one compatible with CEC and ARC, two optical inputs, two coaxial inputs, seven analogue RCA inputs and one Ethernet RJ45 input. It also supports 24-bit/192 kHz PCM, MQA as well as the main DTS and Dolby formats.
This preamplifier is aimed at demanding home cinema enthusiasts wishing to build an upgradable multichannel installation, capable of taking advantage of recent immersive formats and advanced acoustic correction, in combination with separate power amplifiers.

What to check before buying used
On this modular MDC preamplifier, check that the installed input/output module is correctly recognised and up to date, as a firmware update or module change may be required depending on the age of the unit. Test each HDMI input and XLR output individually, including the mini-XLR outputs dedicated to Atmos channels, as well as the proper functioning of CEC and ARC. Also make sure that Dirac Live calibration runs normally and that the Ethernet port allows connection to services and updates.
