Description
The Nagaoka JT80 Blue is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge intended to equip a turntable tonearm. It belongs to the Jeweltone range, which complements Nagaoka's MP series cartridges.
Its output voltage of 5.0 mV makes it particularly suited to use with a phono preamplifier built into an amplifier, without requiring an additional preamplification stage. What to check before buying used
The bonded elliptical diamond and aluminium cantilever are the key points to examine closely: a worn stylus or a misaligned cantilever noticeably degrades groove tracking. Check that the needle is not blunt or fouled with vinyl residue, and check the alignment of the cantilever, which must remain perfectly straight. The internal suspension, linked to the cartridge's compliance, can also stiffen over time and alter the frequency behaviour.
