Description
The Nagaoka MP110 is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge, designed to fit a turntable tonearm. It is intended for use with a phono preamplifier suited to MM cartridges and allows vinyl records to be played back with faithful reproduction of the analogue signal.
Its housing combines plastic and carbon fibre, with an antimagnetic shielded casing that limits electromagnetic interference liable to disturb the signal. The ultralight aluminium alloy cantilever, combined with an elliptical diamond with a radius of 0.4 x 0.7 mil, promotes accurate groove tracking. The Samarium-Cobalt magnet contributes to signal generation, with an output level of 5 mV (1 kHz, 5 cm/sec) and channel separation of 23 dB at 1 kHz. Frequency response extends from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and the recommended tracking force is between 1.5 and 2 g.
This cartridge is suited to turntables fitted with a standard headshell, with the option of a bayonet mount compatible with SL1200 or SME depending on the chosen configuration. It is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts looking for a versatile MM cartridge, suited to regular listening.

What to check before buying used
The elliptical diamond and aluminium cantilever are the key points to examine: wear on the tip or deformation of the cantilever results in a loss of precision in the treble and accelerated groove wear. Also check the condition of the plastic and carbon fibre body, which can crack over time, as well as the attachment of the connection wires to the rear pins. Checking the number of hours of use, where known, allows the remaining lifespan of the diamond to be estimated.
