Description
The AMG STA is a mono power amplifier from NuPrime, designed to equip a high-fidelity system in a bi-amplified or multi-amplified configuration. It belongs to the manufacturer's AMG series, a range intended to bring certain design principles from ultra high-end audio to more accessible use.
Its architecture relies on the combination of a non-negative asymmetrical Class A module and a Class D feedback module, a pairing designed to draw on the linearity of Class A while benefiting from the efficiency of switching. What to check before buying used
The Class D feedback module and the Class A stage should be tested under load over time: unusual background noise or a rise in temperature at idle indicates ageing of the power supply capacitors. Check the condition of the large heatsink and ensure there is no play or oxidation on the XLR/RCA input connectors and speaker output terminals. The machined aluminium front panel, sensitive to impact, deserves careful visual inspection, as a scratch or misalignment cannot be corrected.
