Description
The NuPrime CDT-8 Pro is a music CD transport designed for professional use. Its role is to read a compact disc and extract the digital audio signal from it with the greatest possible precision, before transmitting it to an external converter or DAC.
The unit features a DSP decoder that handles the full range of error-correction functions specified by the Red Book standard, the audio CD standard. A master-clock control governs the entire decoding system, which greatly reduces signal timing instability, also known as jitter. The transport operates at a single speed, a choice that limits mechanical vibration and effects related to poorly balanced discs.
The CDT-8 Pro also features a selectable sample rate converter, which allows the stream from the CD to be resampled to a higher frequency while maintaining very low jitter and distortion. This function aims to optimise the quality of the signal passed downstream to a separate DAC.
This transport is aimed at CD music enthusiasts who already own a high-quality digital-to-analogue converter and wish to pair it with a dedicated digital source, designed for playback stability and precision rather than combining every function into a single unit.

The optical block remains the critical point: favour a unit with low usage hours, as a worn laser results in read errors, mid-disc freezes or a drawer that struggles to load. Also check the drawer mechanism, as belts or slides can stiffen over time. Finally, test the chosen digital output (coaxial, AES/EBU or optical) with the associated DAC, as well as the correct operation of the sample rate converter across its various settings.
