Description
The NuPrime DAC-10H is a digital-to-analogue converter combined with an integrated headphone amplifier. It allows you to connect a digital source, a computer or a network player, and to output the audio signal either to a hi-fi system or directly to headphones, without the need for a separate headphone amplifier.
The converter handles PCM signals up to 32 bit and 384 kHz, as well as DSD files up to 11.2 MHz, in their DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256 variants. This extensive compatibility allows the vast majority of high-resolution formats available today to be played directly, without prior conversion, whether they come from an audio server, a computer or a dedicated digital device.
The integrated headphone amplifier is stated to be capable of driving headphones with an impedance of up to 600 ohms, which covers most demanding audiophile headphone models on the market, including those known to be difficult to drive. The connectivity includes a balanced output as well as an asynchronous USB input, designed to limit transmission noise and preserve the quality of the digital signal right up to conversion.

What to check before buying used
The asynchronous USB port deserves a recognition test with several sources, as a poorly crimped or oxidised connector can cause dropouts or an unstable signal. Also check the balanced headphone output and the jack socket: a volume potentiometer that crackles or an uneven gain range often indicates heavy use. Finally, test playback of high-resolution DSD files, as some ageing conversion stages lose synchronisation at the highest bitrates.
