Description
The NuPrime DAC-8 is a digital-to-analogue converter designed to turn a digital signal into an analogue signal for amplification. It sits between a digital source, network player, computer, television or portable player, and an amplifier, in order to improve the sound reproduction of an existing system.
The unit processes signals up to a resolution of 32 bits and a sampling frequency of 384 kHz, with native support for DSD256 via ASIO2.1 and DoP mode. It offers 8 digital inputs (2 coaxial, 2 optical, 2 HDMI I2S, 2 USB), allowing several sources to be connected simultaneously without multiplying peripheral devices. Volume is adjusted in precise 0.5 dB increments over 99 steps, and each input has its own level setting, making it easier to balance several sources with different sensitivities. The RCA outputs deliver 2 Vrms, with a frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz (±0.3 dB), a signal-to-noise ratio above 110 dB and total harmonic distortion below 0.005%, figures that reflect clean conversion and a low level of residual noise.
- 8 digital inputs: 2 coaxial, 2 optical, 2 HDMI I2S, 2 USB
- USB A input for streamer/Bluetooth receiver
- Analogue RCA output
- 12V trigger input and output
- NuPrime SRC IC chip
This DAC is aimed at those who wish to centralise several digital sources around a single converter, in a hi-fi chain where conversion quality and connectivity richness come first. Its individual per-input volume management makes it a sound choice for multi-source setups.

What to check before buying used
With this type of converter, it is worth checking that each digital input (coaxial, optical, USB, HDMI I2S) functions correctly, as some may become inactive independently of the others if the connectors are worn. The stepped volume control and per-input level memory should also be tested, to confirm that the microprocessor retains the settings after a power cut. Finally, checking DSD256 playback and DoP mode confirms that the asynchronous transfer protocols work correctly with the source in use.
