Description
The NuPrime IA-9X is a compact stereo integrated amplifier, designed to pair several analogue sources with a set of speakers without additional electronics. It incorporates a phono stage dedicated to MM cartridges, making it a possible centrepiece for a vinyl-oriented system as well as for digital or conventional analogue sources.
The unit delivers an RMS output power of 90 W into 8 Ohms and 145 W into 4 Ohms, with respective peaks of 100 W and 160 W: enough to drive speakers of typical sensitivity without strain. Total harmonic distortion remains very low, measured at 0.0014% at 5 W and 0.003% at 50 W, for a typical signal-to-noise ratio of 95 dB and 105 dB at these same levels: reproduction stays clean even at higher power levels. The frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 50 kHz (-3 dB), amply covering the audible spectrum.
The MM phono input stands out for its impedance settings (32 kΩ, 47 kΩ or 100 kΩ) and input capacitance settings (100 pF, 220 pF or 320 pF), allowing the load to be adjusted according to the cartridge in use to get the best out of it. The MM input sensitivity is 4.0 mV at 1 kHz, with a gain of 65 dB at 1 kHz between the MM input and the line output. The unit also offers two analogue stereo RCA inputs, one analogue stereo XLR input, analogue RCA and XLR outputs, two speaker outputs, as well as a DC12V trigger input in 3.5 mm 3-pin jack format for synchronising power-up with other units.
With dimensions of 235 x 60 x 281 mm and a weight of 3.8 kg, the IA-9X is aimed at users with limited space who nonetheless want versatile electronics, capable of handling both a turntable fitted with an MM cartridge and analogue or digital sources via an external DAC.

What to check before buying used
On this model, the phono stage deserves particular attention: the impedance and input capacitance settings should be checked to ensure they switch correctly according to the cartridge used. The RCA and XLR inputs and the DC12V trigger socket should be tested one by one to rule out any loose contact, particularly on a unit that has passed through several systems. Checking the volume potentiometer at low levels helps detect any crackling caused by worn contacts.
