Description
The NuPrime IDA-8 is an integrated amplifier combining an amplification section and a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) in a single chassis. It allows a digital source, a computer or a Bluetooth stream to be connected directly, without a separate preamplifier or DAC, and to drive a pair of speakers on output.
The amplification is based on a hybrid Class A+D architecture: an ULCAM preamplifier stage operating in Class A, known for its linearity, combined with a switching power stage clocked at 600 kHz. This combination aims to bring together the tonal quality of a Class A design with the efficiency and compactness of a switching amplifier. The stated power output is 2 × 100 W into 8 Ω.
Digital-to-analogue conversion is handled by an ESS Sabre ES9010K2M chip, capable of processing PCM streams up to 384 kHz and DSD256 on the USB input. The unit also incorporates high-resolution Bluetooth, allowing wireless music streaming without a USB cable. What to check before buying used
On this hybrid amplifier, test the Class A/D switching and the stability of the ES9010K2M DAC on the USB and Bluetooth inputs to rule out any dropouts or crackling. Check that the protection relays operate correctly at power-up and that there is no hum at low volume, which would indicate worn capacitors. Also check the condition of the front panel and control knobs, as well as the presence of the original power cable and remote control.
