Description
The NuPrime MCX is a power amplifier designed specifically for multichannel installations, where several amplification channels must coexist within a single chassis while maintaining consistent sound quality. It is aimed at home cinema or multizone configurations requiring several independent amplification channels.
The unit is based on NuPrime's hybrid class A+D technology, which combines the texture and warmth generally associated with class A with the energy efficiency and speed of class D. The proprietary ULCAM circuit uses discrete components allowing precise signal adjustment, with the aim of reducing noise and making the most of the available power. The amplification stage relies on a self-oscillating circuit that generates pulse width modulation, with a switching frequency of 550 kHz, well above the 44.1 kHz sampling rate of a compact disc.

What to check before buying used
On a multichannel amplifier such as the MCX, it is best to check that each channel delivers symmetrical power when tested, as an imbalance may indicate a tired output module. The large heatsinks and speaker connectors at the rear deserve close inspection: signs of overheating, loose or oxidised terminals are warning signs. Listening to the inputs and outputs (RCA, XLR depending on version) on each channel also helps rule out any faulty contact before purchase.
