Description
The NuPrime Omnia WR-1 is a network player designed to stream music to several zones within a single installation. It acts as a central source capable of drawing on online streaming services, a locally connected USB drive, network storage, or other digital and analogue sources connected to the unit.
Its connectivity relies on WiFi and Bluetooth with support for the aptX HD codec, allowing wireless streaming with carefully preserved audio quality from a smartphone or any other compatible device. On the online sources side, the unit is compatible with a wide range of platforms: Qobuz, Spotify, Tidal, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, Napster and QQ Music, among others. For locally stored files, it reads both a USB drive and a NAS via DLNA.
The multi-zone function is at the heart of the unit: it is possible to group several speakers or receiving streamers together to play the same source in different rooms, or alternatively to assign them separate content. Control is via a free app available on iOS and Android, which allows you to choose the music source and set up playback groups.
This network player is aimed at those wishing to build a multi-room audio installation without multiplying dedicated devices, relying on a single source able to communicate with various streaming services, a home NAS and Bluetooth peripherals. It is suited both to centralised use in the living room and to extended playback across several zones of the home.
What to check before buying used
The front USB drawer and the network connectors (RJ45, WiFi aerial) deserve close inspection: these are the most heavily used contact points and the first to suffer from loose connections on a unit that has already seen some handling. Also check that the Bluetooth aptX HD module pairs correctly and that the control app properly detects the unit on the network, as the multi-zone configuration is sensitive to software updates sometimes interrupted by a previous owner. A reset to factory settings before any testing is recommended in order to start from a clean base.
