Description
The NuPrime STA-100 is a stereo power amplifier intended to complement a preamplifier or a source fitted with a line output, in order to directly power a pair of passive speakers. It is based on a class D topology, recognised for its energy efficiency, which explains its particularly compact format and low weight.
It delivers 2x100W into 8 ohms, and up to 2x175W peak into 4 ohms, enough to cover the requirements of the majority of speakers on the market. The input gain can be set to three positions (x15, x20, x30), allowing the output level to be adapted according to the source used upstream. The frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 50 kHz, and the harmonic distortion rate remains below 0.005%, with a signal-to-noise ratio above 90 dB at 1W, 10W and 100W: values that reflect clean sound reproduction, with no colouration added by the electronics.
In terms of connectivity, the unit is limited to an unbalanced RCA input, complemented by a 12V trigger link for synchronised power-up with the rest of the system, as well as a stereo speaker output. What to check before buying used
On a class D amplifier such as this one, attention should focus primarily on the switch-mode power supply and its associated capacitors, whose ageing can affect the stability of the power delivered. It is advisable to check the correct operation of the short-circuit and overheating protection circuits, as well as the condition of the three-position gain setting, to ensure it switches correctly. Testing at different volume levels helps to identify any parasitic noise or cut-outs linked to the power electronics.
