Description
The Oehlbach 5005 is a set of OFC copper bridging straps designed for loudspeakers fitted with bi-wiring terminals. When the amplifier is connected via a single pair of cables, these bridges link the woofer and tweeter terminals on each speaker together, ensuring the electrical continuity needed for the crossover to function.
Each strap measures 0.1 metres and the set comprises four, enough to equip both terminals on a pair of stereo speakers. The choice of OFC copper, an oxygen-free copper known for its purity, aims to limit signal losses at this connection point, an aspect often overlooked despite being an integral part of the signal path between the amplifier and the drivers.

What to check before buying used
Check that all four straps are present and that their forks or lugs show no signs of oxidation, particularly at the contact points that screw onto the terminals. Bare OFC copper can tarnish over time: a slight greenish or blackish surface deposit increases contact resistance and impairs the connection between the woofer and tweeter terminals. Also make sure the lugs are not loose or bent, as this would compromise the tightening on the speaker terminals.
