Description
The Powerstation 909 is a mains power strip from Oehlbach, designed to organise the power supply of an audio or video installation. It comes in a 19-inch rack version, allowing it to be integrated directly into a rack alongside the rest of the components, or simply placed on a table depending on the configuration of the hifi cabinet.
The unit has eight individual outlets divided into two distinct groups: four filtered outlets, intended for digital sources, and four unfiltered outlets for analogue equipment. This separation makes it possible to isolate the electrical interference that some digital equipment can generate, so as not to pass it on to analogue stages that are more sensitive to background noise. Each socket has its own phase marking, monitored by a red indicator light that signals a correct connection.
This type of power strip is aimed at users with several hifi or home cinema components to connect simultaneously: amplifier, player, tuner, turntable, active speakers or digital source. What to check before buying used
The EMI/RFI filtering circuit on the four outlets dedicated to digital equipment may lose effectiveness as the internal components age, without this being visible from the outside: testing with sensitive sources on arrival remains worthwhile. Also check the indicator light on each outlet, which is meant to confirm correct phase polarity, as well as the firmness of the eight mains sockets, which can loosen with use. On the rack version, also check the condition of the 19-inch mounting ears and that there is no play in the chassis.
