Onkyo Muse Y50
Onkyo Muse Y-50 connected stereo amplifier, featuring a colour LCD display, multi-platform streaming and a phono input, for an all-in-one hi-fi system.
Description
The Muse Y-50 is an integrated stereo amplifier from Onkyo, designed as an all-in-one hi-fi hub. It combines power amplification, streaming management and audio and video connectivity in a single unit, with no need for separate components to listen to networked music or play from an analogue source.
Amplification is based on an Axign Class D architecture, capable of delivering 2 x 125 W into 8 ohms and 2 x 250 W into 4 ohms, allowing it to drive speakers with an impedance of between 4 and 16 ohms. The stated frequency response spans 20 Hz to 30 kHz (+1/-3 dB), a wide range that reflects good reproduction of both bass and treble. The Onkyo Room EQ function, with microphone calibration, analyses the listening room to adjust the sound to the actual environment.
On the connectivity side, the Y-50 includes Wi-Fi and Ethernet for stable network streaming, as well as compatibility with Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2 and Chromecast, allowing streaming from a smartphone, tablet or computer without any additional wireless device. Built-in Bluetooth supports the SBC and AAC codecs. The unit can also be controlled via the Onkyo Controller app, for managing sources and settings.
The physical connectivity is particularly comprehensive: three analogue RCA inputs, an MM/MC-compatible phono input, an optical input, a coaxial input, a 4K/8K HDMI input and an HDMI ARC output, complemented by an RCA pre-out, a USB-A input and a front-panel headphone output. This range allows a turntable, a television or a conventional digital source to be connected just as easily. A 13.9 cm colour LCD display shows playback information or an analogue VU meter.
This model is aimed at anyone wishing to centralise their entire music and audiovisual listening around a single device, without multiplying units: high-quality streaming enthusiasts, turntable owners, or anyone looking to power a television via HDMI ARC. Its versatility of sources makes it a central solution for a compact hi-fi setup.

What to check before buying used
Onkyo Room EQ calibration relies on a dedicated microphone: check that it is included with the unit, otherwise the function becomes unusable. Test the network connections (Wi-Fi, Ethernet) and streaming services (AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify/TIDAL/Qobuz Connect), as some modules may disconnect or require a firmware update no longer available since support ended. Also check for any noise or dropouts from the Axign Class D power stage, particularly at high volume into 4 ohms.
