The TX-RZ70 is a home cinema AV receiver from Onkyo, designed to drive a complete multichannel setup. It can be integrated into a configuration of up to 11.2 channels, or a 7.2.4 variant with height Atmos channels, and supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats for the reproduction of film, video game and music soundtracks.
Its rated power output is 140 W at 8 ohms, with a harmonic distortion rate of 0.08% across the 20 Hz to 20 kHz range, reflecting clean sound reproduction across the entire audible spectrum. The frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 100 kHz and the signal-to-noise ratio reaches 106 dB, both values contributing to a detailed, low-noise reproduction. The unit accepts speakers with an impedance between 4 and 16 ohms, allowing a degree of flexibility in the choice of associated speakers. On the video side, the HDMI 2.1 inputs and outputs handle 8K UHD at 60fps and 4K UHD at 120fps, with support for HDR10+, Dolby Vision, eARC and the gaming features ALLM, VRR and QFT. Acoustic calibration relies on AccuEQ and on Dirac Live Room Calibration Full Bandwidth technology, intended to adapt the sound output to the room's acoustics.
This model is aimed at demanding home cinema installations, combining a large screen and multichannel system, where precise management of sound and high-definition image is sought. What to check before buying used
On an AV receiver of this complexity, systematically test all HDMI 2.1 inputs and outputs, particularly 8K and 4K/120 compatibility, as these circuits are prone to failure after several years of use. Also check the correct operation of the various audio zones (zone 2, zone 3), the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module, and the reception of the AM/FM and DAB tuners. A check of proper pairing with a Dirac Live or AccuEQ calibration system is also recommended, as is the condition of the potentiometers and front panel if the unit has seen heavy use.
