The UHD40 is a living room projector from Optoma, designed to bring cinema home on a very large image. It targets households wanting to project films, series, broadcasts and gaming sessions without installing a flat screen, whilst remaining a self-contained device, ready to work as soon as a video source is connected.
The optical core relies on a 0.47" DLP chip from Texas Instruments, a matrix format associated with Ultra HD 4K rendering. This technological choice explains the sharpness of definition stated by the manufacturer: a high pixel density that remains readable even when the image base far exceeds two metres, whereas a lower definition would leave the pixel structure visible. Added to this is High Dynamic Range compatibility, which allows HDR content to be exploited along with its extended range between dark areas and highlights.
Support for HDCP 2.2 has a very concrete consequence: it is the version of the protection protocol required by modern Ultra HD sources, led by 4K disc players and streaming boxes.
