Description
The 2M Bronze is part of Ortofon's 2M series, a family of MM (Moving Magnet) cartridges designed to offer an extended frequency response and refined musical reproduction. It is intended to be fitted to a turntable as a replacement for the original cartridge or an ageing one.
This cartridge uses a Fine Line diamond stylus. This tip profile follows the undulations of the groove more precisely than a conventional diamond, while reducing the pinch effect associated with playback. The contact surface with the groove is larger, which limits wear to the groove walls over repeated plays and allows for detailed reproduction of the sound spectrum.
The 2M Bronze also stands out for its good channel balance between the two stereo channels and low distortion, two factors that contribute to a stable soundstage and faithful reproduction of the signal cut into the groove.
This type of cartridge is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts with a turntable capable of accommodating an MM cartridge who wish to improve tracking precision compared to an entry-level cartridge, without moving to an MC (Moving Coil) cartridge, which is generally more demanding in terms of phono stage requirements.

What to check before buying used
The Fine Line stylus suspension is sensitive to knocks and to incorrect tracking force settings: check that the tip is neither blunted nor skewed, which would indicate wear or a fall. The thin, lightweight cantilever may be bent or misaligned on a unit that has suffered an impact during transport or fitting. Also check the condition of the bronzed aluminium body and the flexibility of the connecting wires at the rear of the cartridge, which can come unsoldered over time.
