Description
The Concorde Music Black is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge from Ortofon, a descendant of the Concorde format born in the world of DJing and adapted here to meet the demands of high fidelity. Its shape, integrated into the cartridge body, allows mounting without screws or exposed wiring, directly compatible with tonearms fitted with a standard SME connector.
The stylus is fitted with a nude Line Contact Shibata tip, mounted on an aluminium cantilever, for accurate groove tracing. The generator system relies on four coils mounted on split pole pieces, wound in oxygen-free silver-plated copper, for an output voltage of 6 mV. The stylus suspension uses a rubber compound developed and manufactured by Ortofon. In terms of performance, the cartridge offers a frequency response of +2/-0 dB, channel separation of 26 dB at 1 kHz and a dynamic lateral compliance of 15 μm/mN, with a recommended tracking force of 1.8 g.
This cartridge is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts equipped with an SME-connector tonearm who want accurate tracking without manual wiring work. Its mounting compatibility with the entire Concorde Music range also allows for a future upgrade to a higher model in the same series, such as the Concorde Music Black LVB 250, without changing the housing.

What to check before buying used
The stylus and its nude Shibata tip are the first elements to examine: this fine tip is sensitive to shocks and wear, and uneven wear results in a loss of definition or distortion in the treble. Also check the condition of the aluminium cantilever, which can become misaligned or bent following a previous impact. The stylus's rubber suspension hardens over time; if the unit has seen little use but is old, checking compliance by ear remains worthwhile before setting the tracking force to 1.8 g.
