Description
The Concorde Music Black LVB 250 is a high-end moving magnet (MM) cartridge, positioned at the top of Ortofon's Concorde Music range. It uses the original Concorde shape, designed to be mounted on a tonearm without screws or separate wiring, thanks to an SME connector compatible with most standard tonearms.
The stylus is fitted with a bare Line Contact Shibata tip, mounted on a boron cantilever, a material chosen for its rigidity and its ability to faithfully transmit groove modulations. The suspension uses a rubber compound developed and manufactured by Ortofon. The generator system is based on four coils mounted on split pole pieces, wound with silver-plated oxygen-free copper, giving an output voltage of 6 mV. The frequency response is rated at +2/-0 dB, with a channel separation of 26 dB at 1 kHz and a channel balance of 1 dB at 1 kHz. The lateral dynamic compliance of 15 μm/mN and the recommended tracking force of 1.8 g define the settings to apply on the tonearm.
This cartridge is aimed at turntable users with an SME-compatible tonearm, looking for a high-end MM cartridge with an upgradeable stylus: all Concorde Music styli are interchangeable with one another, making it possible to upgrade a Concorde Music Red cartridge to this Black LVB 250 model without changing the cartridge body.

What to check before buying used
The bare Shibata tip is the element most exposed to wear: its condition should be checked under a loupe or microscope, ensuring there is no flat spot or compacted dust deposit. The boron cantilever, stiffer than aluminium, withstands lateral shocks well but may become misaligned following a frontal impact, which should be checked visually against the axis of the cartridge body. The rubber suspension loses flexibility over time and through thermal cycles: compliance that deviates from the original value (15 μm/mN) results in poor groove tracking, particularly noticeable on heavily modulated passages.
