Description
The Concorde Music Blue is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge from Ortofon, featuring the Concorde body designed for screw-free, wireless mounting on a tonearm fitted with an SME connector. It forms part of the Concorde Music range, designed to offer faithful groove tracking while simplifying installation on the turntable.
The stylus features a bare elliptical diamond mounted on an aluminium cantilever, with a tip radius r/R of 8/18 μm and a lateral dynamic compliance of 15 μm/mN, two parameters that directly affect groove tracking precision and compatibility with the tonearm used. The coil system is based on oxygen-free silver-plated copper wound across four coils on split-pole pieces, giving an output voltage of 6 mV. The stated frequency response is +2/-1 dB, with channel separation of 25 dB at 1 kHz and channel balance of 1.5 dB at the same frequency. The internal impedance (DC resistance) is 1.27 kΩ for an inductance of 815 mH, the cartridge being designed for a load resistance of 47 kOhm and a load capacitance of between 150 and 300 pF. The recommended tracking force is 1.8 g, for a total cartridge weight of 1.8 g. The stylus suspension uses a rubber compound developed and produced by Ortofon.
This cartridge is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts with a tonearm fitted with an SME connector, looking for simple mounting without special tools. Its design also allows, within the Concorde Music range, for a possible upgrade to a higher-level stylus on the same cartridge body.

What to check before buying used
The stylus and bare elliptical diamond wear with playing hours: check their condition under magnification and ensure there is no embedded dirt at the tip. Also check that the rubber suspension has not hardened or lost flexibility over time, which would affect groove tracking and the stated compliance. The SME connector and the four split-pole pins deserve a visual check to ensure no pin is bent or loose before mounting on the tonearm.
