Description
The Concorde Music Red is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge from Ortofon, designed in the Concorde format that mounts directly onto a suitable tonearm, without separate screws or wiring. It is fitted to amateur and audiophile turntables seeking faithful groove reproduction.
The stylus features an elliptical diamond mounted on an aluminium cantilever, a combination that favours good transmission of groove modulations. The suspension uses a rubber compound developed and manufactured by Ortofon, while the generating system relies on four oxygen-free silver-plated copper coils mounted on split pole pieces, for an output voltage of 6 mV. The frequency response is +3/-1 dB, with channel separation of 22 dB at 1 kHz. Internal impedance is 1.27 kΩ with an inductance of 815 mH, and the cartridge is designed for a load resistance of 47 kOhm and a load capacitance of 150 to 300 pF. The recommended tracking force is 1.8 g, for a cartridge weight of 1.8 g.

What to check before buying used
The diamond stylus is the element most exposed to wear: check its visual condition and the quality of the sound reproduced, particularly in the treble, which can deteriorate with hours of use. The rubber suspension of the cantilever may also lose flexibility over time, affecting groove tracking and the stated compliance of 15 μm/mN. Also check the integrity of the four connection pins specific to the Concorde format, which are stressed each time the cartridge is fitted to or removed from the tonearm.
