Ortofon MC A Mono

The MC A Mono cartridge is designed in TRUE MONO, dedicated exclusively to the playback of records recorded in monophony.

When a MONO recording is played with a conventional stereo cartridge, the two channels do not reproduce an identical signal: crosstalk, noise, phase errors, tracking errors, anti-skating and distortion introduce discrepancies between them. The result is an unstable and partially blurred sound image. A mono switch can mitigate this flaw, but only to a certain extent.

With a TRUE MONO cartridge, these problems disappear: a single signal is generated, then sent simultaneously to both channels of the system. The resulting sound image is thus noticeably more stable, more powerful, and the sound gains in fullness.

Another major advantage of this type of cartridge lies in its lack of sensitivity to vertical movement. It therefore almost entirely avoids the pinch effect that occurs when the stylus is pushed vertically in very fine grooves. This vertical insensitivity also greatly reduces the reproduction of noise related to dust, dirt and record wear, since this component is simply not picked up. Playback of a MONO record thus becomes much cleaner and quieter, a result that a simple mono switch cannot replicate.
