Ortofon QUINTET BRONZE
High-end MM cartridge from the Quintet range, fitted with a Nude Fine Line diamond stylus for fine, precise groove tracking.
Description
The Quintet Bronze is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge, positioned at the top of Ortofon's Quintet range. It is fitted to turntables to convert the signal cut into the groove into an electrical signal destined for a phono preamplifier.
Its diamond stylus is of the Nude Fine Line type, a refined profile designed to track groove modulations more finely, even at high frequencies. This stylus profile, wider than on the range's entry-level models, helps reduce distortion and limit groove wear over successive plays.
This design aims for a neutral sound reproduction, with good spatial definition: the cartridge allows each instrument to be precisely placed within the soundstage, a point particularly appreciated on classical music recordings where the positioning of sections matters.
The Quintet Bronze is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts seeking an MM cartridge capable of accurately and dynamically reproducing all musical styles, without marked colouration. It suits demanding classical music listening as well as other genres where fidelity and dynamic range are sought.
What to check before buying used
The stylus suspension loses flexibility over time: check that the Nude Fine Line tip shows no chipping or asymmetric wear under magnification, and that the cantilever is not bent. Also check the tightness and alignment of the connection pins on the headshell, as well as the condition of the output wires, often weakened by repeated handling. A used replacement stylus must match the Bronze reference exactly to preserve the original tip profile.
