Description
This pack contains WBT RCA connectors, reference 0101, the flagship model of the manufacturer's Topline range. These plugs are intended for fitting or refitting audio cables, either to replace original connectors or to make bespoke cable assemblies.
The body of these connectors has a high copper content, combined with a multi-layer 24-carat gold plating. The barrel is made of polished ruthenium, a metal known for its hardness and resistance to oxidation. The crossed centre pin and Teflon insulation complete the construction. These plugs accept cables up to 9 mm in diameter.
This model is aimed at enthusiasts and installers who wish to build or redo RCA cables with high-end connectors, with a view to contact quality and long-lasting finish, on a hi-fi system where every connection matters.
These connectors can only be fitted by soldering the cable into the plug. Solder is supplied with the pack, but not a soldering iron: you will therefore need your own equipment and a certain level of soldering skill for a neat installation, without risk of damage to the barrel or the Teflon insulation.
What to check before buying used
The crossed centre pin and ruthenium barrel do not tolerate hasty soldering well: overheating can weaken the Teflon insulation or mark the finish. On an already assembled unit, check the cleanliness and solidity of the solder joints as well as the absence of play in the cable clamping, which ensures mechanical retention over time. The 24-carat gold plating should remain uniform, with no trace of oxidation or repeated handling that has dulled the barrel.
