Description
The Founder 40B is a 2-way bass reflex loaded bookshelf speaker, designed by Paradigm to accurately reproduce the nuances of an audio source in a domestic environment. It combines a tweeter dedicated to high frequencies with a midrange-woofer tasked with rendering the body of the sound signal.
The tweeter is a 25 mm aluminium-magnesium-ceramic (AL-MAC) dome, paired with an oblate spheroidal waveguide (OSW) which aims to structure the sound dispersion in the listening room. The midrange-woofer is built around a 152 mm ultra-high excursion aluminium and magnesium (AL-MAG) cone, supported by Gen3 Active Ridge (ART) suspension technology and a SHOCKMOUNT isolation system designed to limit unwanted chassis vibrations.
In terms of performance, the Founder 40B offers a frequency response of ± 2 dB between 69 Hz and 20 kHz, with a low-frequency extension measured at 41 Hz according to the DIN standard. What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the 152 mm AL-MAG cone's suspensions: a tear or sagging results in soft or distorted bass. Also inspect the AL-MAC tweeter dome, which is particularly sensitive to accidental dents, as well as the OSW waveguide, which should remain free of cracks. Finally, examine the cabinet and side veneer for any signs of impact or moisture damage that may have affected the panel bonding.
