Description
The Founder 70LCR is a three-way centre speaker from Paradigm, designed to occupy the channel dedicated to dialogue and voice in a Home Cinema or multichannel installation. Its purpose is to accurately reproduce speech and central effects from a soundtrack, complementing a pair of main speakers and a subwoofer.
The tweeter is a 25 mm aluminium-magnesium-ceramic (AL-MAC) coaxial dome, paired with an oblate spheroid waveguide that helps control the sound's directivity within the room. The midrange uses a coaxial architecture with a 152 mm AL-MAG cone, while the bass is handled by two 127 mm CARBON-X ultra-high excursion monocoque woofers, mounted on a SHOCK-MOUNT isolation system designed to limit parasitic vibrations transmitted to the cabinet. The frequency response is rated at ± 2 dB between 79 Hz and 23 kHz, with a low-frequency extension down to 47 Hz. With a sensitivity of 92 dB and an impedance of 8 ohms, it requires only a modest power amplifier to fill a room, with a recommended range of 15 to 220 watts and a maximum admissible power of 150 watts.
This centre speaker is aimed at those building or completing a Home Cinema installation already equipped with Paradigm speakers from the Founder series, or looking for a centre channel capable of keeping pace with demanding main speakers without becoming the weak link in the chain. Its dual-woofer configuration makes it better suited to medium to large living rooms.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the surrounds on both CARBON-X woofers and the coaxial midrange cone, which can harden or crack over time, as well as checking for any play or unwanted noise in the SHOCK-MOUNT mounting system intended to isolate the drivers from the cabinet. Listening across the full frequency range, from bass to treble, helps to identify any distortion or sound degradation caused by worn diaphragms.
