Description
The Founder 80F is a 2.5-way floorstanding speaker fitted with four drivers, designed for hi-fi music reproduction. It combines a dedicated tweeter for the high frequencies with several woofer/midrange transducers housed in the same cabinet, a configuration intended to cover the full sound spectrum with minimal colouration.
The tweeter is a 25 mm aluminium-magnesium-ceramic (AL-MAC) dome paired with an oblate spheroidal waveguide, a combination designed to disperse high frequencies broadly and evenly throughout the listening room. The midrange/woofer driver uses a 152 mm ultra-high excursion AL-MAG cone, while the bass is handled by two single-piece CARBON-X cones of the same diameter, also ultra-high excursion: this dual arrangement allows the speaker to reach down to 28 Hz (DIN) while maintaining a controlled frequency response of ± 2 dB between 50 Hz and 23 kHz. With a sensitivity of 93 dB and an impedance of 8 ohms, it can be driven without requiring an overly powerful amplifier, with a maximum admissible power of 180 watts.

What to check before buying used
With this type of multi-driver floorstanding speaker, it is worth inspecting the condition of the AL-MAG and CARBON-X cones as well as the tweeter dome, which are prone to impact damage and suspension sag over time. A test at progressively increasing volume can reveal any unwanted noise, distortion or imbalance between the two speakers, which would indicate a worn driver. It is also worth checking the condition of the internal crossover and connectors, which are exposed to oxidation after prolonged storage.
