Description
The Prophecy 7 is a 3-way bass-reflex floorstanding speaker sold in pairs, designed by PMC for music listening and home cinema. It stands out through its three-driver architecture, each covering a specific frequency range, with a soft dome midrange driver mounted in a waveguide unique to the Prophecy range.
The woofer uses a 125 mm mineral cone on a cast alloy chassis, paired with an advanced transmission line incorporating LaminairX technology, an evolution of the Laminair system developed by PMC. The midrange is based on a 55 mm soft dome and the treble on a 27 mm soft dome, with crossover frequencies set at 0.6 kHz and 3.1 kHz by a hand-assembled and hand-tuned filter. Frequency response extends from 40 Hz to 20 kHz (-3 dB), with a sensitivity of 88 dB SPL (1 W/1 m) and an impedance of 6 ohms. Recommended amplification power ranges from 25 to 250 W.

What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the 125 mm woofer's suspension and for any cracks in the cast alloy chassis, as an impact can misalign the voice coil and cause audible rubbing. Also inspect the midrange and tweeter soft domes, which are prone to dents and tears if handled without a protective grille. Finally, examine the cabinet and the finish of the bass-reflex port, as well as the condition of the 4 mm connection terminals, which are sometimes oxidised or loose on older units.
