Description
The Prophecy 9 is a 3-way bass-reflex floorstanding speaker, sold in pairs, designed by PMC for hi-fi listening as well as home cinema use. It features a transmission line architecture, an acoustic loading technology unique to the brand, paired with two woofers, a dome midrange and a dome tweeter.
The bass section relies on two 125 mm woofers with mineral cone and cast alloy chassis, supported by the LaminairX airflow technology built into the transmission line. This configuration allows the speaker to offer a frequency response of 35 Hz to 20 kHz (-3 dB), a particularly wide bass extension for a floorstanding speaker of this size. The midrange is handled by a 55 mm soft dome and the treble by a 27 mm soft dome, with crossover frequencies set at 0.6 kHz and 3.2 kHz.
With a sensitivity of 91.5 dB SPL (1 W/1 m) and an impedance of 4 ohms, the Prophecy 9 accepts a recommended amplification range of 30 to 300 W, allowing it to work equally well with a modest-power integrated amplifier or with more powerful electronics. Connection is made via a pair of 4 mm terminals with a satin nickel finish.

What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the suspensions on both 125 mm woofers and ensure there is no tearing or unusual stiffness on the midrange and treble soft domes, which are particularly exposed to impact. Inspect the internal transmission line and the cabinet (veneer, corners, base) to rule out any damage from transport or damp storage. Test each speaker separately at moderate volume across the full frequency range to detect any crackling or loss of definition in the bass.
