The PMC Twenty5 23i Oak is a 2-way bass-reflex floorstanding speaker from the Twenty5 range by British manufacturer PMC. It comes in a slim, discreet form, designed to fit into both modern and traditional interiors, while providing sound dispersion suited to medium-sized rooms.
This speaker is built around Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology, a 2.4-metre acoustic transmission line that harnesses the energy of the bass-mid driver more fully than conventional ported or sealed-box designs. The 14 cm aluminium-chassis driver works alongside a 19 mm tweeter with a SONOFLEX diaphragm and ferro-fluid, with a crossover frequency set at 1.7 kHz. What to check before buying used
The suspensions of the 14 cm driver deserve careful inspection: any sagging or hardening of the material affects bass performance, particularly on an ATL transmission line, which places heavy demands on the bass-mid driver. The SONOFLEX tweeter dome should be checked visually (no dents) and by ear (no distortion in the treble). The cabinet, particularly the oak veneer and the transmission line vents, should be inspected for any impact, chips or signs of moisture that could affect the acoustic tuning.
