PMC Twenty5 26i

The Twenty5.26i is the largest floorstanding speaker in PMC's Twenty5 range, a British manufacturer recognised for its soft dome drivers aimed at the mid to high end. This three-way configuration stands out through the addition of a dedicated midrange driver, an area where the detail of vocals and the most demanding recordings comes into play.

The three-way design assigns each frequency range its own transducer: a 17 cm bass-midrange driver with aluminium chassis, a 5 cm midrange dome and a 19 cm tweeter with SONOFLEX diaphragm treated with ferro-fluid. The crossover frequencies, set at 400 Hz and 4 kHz, organise this division of labour between the three drive units. The bass relies on Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology, a 3.3 m quarter-wave line that harnesses the energy of the woofer more fully than a conventional bass-reflex or sealed enclosure, for a stated frequency response of 27 Hz to 25 kHz. The speaker accepts a power handling of 150 W and is driven by an amplifier of 50 W to 300 W at a nominal impedance of 8 ohms; its sensitivity of 86.5 dB/1 W/1 m calls for an amplifier capable of giving it full expression. Bi-amping is possible for those wishing to separate the power supply to each drive section.

This type of speaker is intended for a structured hi-fi system, able to properly drive an 8 ohm load with sufficient power, and installed in a space large enough to accommodate the dimensions of 192 x 1040 x 439 mm and the weight of 25 kg per speaker. It suits a listener attentive to vocal precision and bass coherence, in a living room or dedicated listening room where the speaker can be positioned without space constraints.
