Description
The Sonneteer Sedley is a phono preamplifier designed to amplify and correct the signal from a turntable before sending it to an amplifier. It sits between the turntable and the amplification stage to restore the level and RIAA equalisation curve required for accurate playback of records.
This preamplifier was designed to accommodate both moving coil (MC) and moving magnet (MM) cartridges, thanks to a wide range of loading adjustments allowing it to be matched to most cartridges on the market. It also includes a USB input and output, a feature that allows vinyl records to be converted directly into digital files on a computer, without any additional capture equipment.
The Sedley was designed to complement the Sonneteer Campion and Alabaster amplifiers, sharing their minimalist approach. It nonetheless integrates just as well into other hi-fi systems, provided the user is looking for a versatile phono preamp in terms of cartridge compatibility.
This preamplifier is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts equipped with turntables with interchangeable cartridges, whether they simply wish to optimise the playback of their records or also want to archive their record collection in digital format via the USB output.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking that the loading and gain adjustments work correctly, as these are often handled by internal switches or jumpers that can become oxidised over time. It is also useful to test the USB connection, whose port and conversion circuitry can be prone to wear, as well as to check for the absence of background noise or hum on the phono inputs, which would indicate the condition of the internal components.
