Primare NP5 MKII Prisma
Primare network streaming module featuring Prisma technology, to add multiroom playback to any hi-fi system with a digital input.
Description
The NP5 MKII Prisma is a network player unit from Primare, designed to bring Prisma streaming technology to any audio system with a digital input. It is not an amplifier or a standalone source in the traditional sense, but a connectivity module that enhances an existing installation with advanced network streaming functions.
This device incorporates all the streaming protocols found on the brand's award-winning Prisma models: AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, built-in Chromecast, Roon Ready and Spotify Connect. It also allows control of a network-attached hard drive, enabling playback of locally stored audio files in addition to online streams. The Prisma technology it relies on is designed for multi-room and multi-zone connectivity, with centralised control from a dedicated smartphone or tablet app.
The NP5 MKII Prisma is aimed at those who already own an amplifier or hi-fi system equipped with a digital input and wish to add modern streaming capabilities without changing their entire setup. It is particularly suited to multiroom use, where several listening zones need to be synchronised or controlled independently via a single app.
What to check before buying used
The Prisma module relies entirely on its firmware: check that an update is still possible and that the app remains compatible, as a unit left too long without updates may lose certain network functions. Also check the Ethernet port, Wi-Fi reception and the proper operation of the USB port dedicated to the network hard drive. Testing Bluetooth pairing and connection to Roon Ready, AirPlay 2 or Spotify Connect services helps ensure each protocol responds correctly.
