What to check before buying used
Feel the woofer-midrange driver's suspension: the carbon/paper cone ages well, but the foam or rubber surround can crack or stiffen over time and affect bass reproduction. Inspect the silk tweeter dome, which is prone to deformation or perforation from impact. Also check the cabinet: lifting veneer, chips on the edges or signs of moisture on the bass-reflex base, and confirm that the rear connection terminals are not loose or oxidised.
