Pro-Ject Debut PRO S
Belt-driven Pro-Ject turntable with a 10-inch aluminium tonearm featuring an SME connector and a damped platter, for listening and fine cartridge adjustment.
Description
The Pro-Ject Debut PRO S is a belt-driven turntable fitted with electronic speed change between 33 and 45 rpm, with 78 rpm playback possible thanks to a dedicated round belt. Its chassis, widened to 465 mm, and its 300 mm aluminium platter provide a stable base for record playback.
The S-shaped aluminium tonearm, 254 mm long with an effective mass of 8 g, uses an SME-type connector that makes cartridge replacement easier. It is adjustable in azimuth and vertical tracking angle (VTA), allowing precise adjustment of playback geometry according to the cartridge fitted. The die-cast aluminium platter incorporates a TPE ring that damps resonances and limits skipping effects, while the high-precision stainless steel spindle ensures rotational stability. The signal-to-noise ratio reaches 68 dB, with wow & flutter of +/-0.16% at 33 rpm and +/-0.14% at 45 rpm.
This turntable is aimed at audiophiles wishing to fine-tune their system with a cartridge of their choice and precisely adjust the tonearm geometry, in a setup where playback precision and mechanical stability are paramount.

What to check before buying used
The drive belt is a wear part worth checking: make sure it is neither slack nor cracked, as this would affect rotational speed. Also check the condition of the cartridge fitted on the SME connector and the accuracy of the azimuth and VTA settings, which may have been altered by a previous user. A look at the platter's TPE ring will confirm it has not lost its damping elasticity.
