Description
This belt-driven turntable is built around a thick glass platter, designed to limit resonance and offer stable playback. Speed change between 33 and 45 rpm is carried out electronically, with a simple press of a toggle switch, without moving the belt on the pulleys.
The AC motor ensures steady rotation with reduced vibration, an important point for playback fidelity on this type of belt-driven mechanism. The 10 mm thick glass platter weighs 1.7 kg and rests on a felt platter mat underneath, a mass that contributes to rotational stability. The tonearm, made of 9-inch aluminium, has an effective length of 230 mm for an effective mass of 9.5 g, values which determine compatibility with certain cartridges. What to check before buying used
The Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge deserves a check of the stylus under magnification, as tip wear is invisible to the naked eye but audible from the first grooves. The drive belt loosens over time: check the consistency of 33 and 45 rpm by ear, listening for wow or speed variation. The 1.7 kg glass platter should be examined under light to rule out any chips or cracks on the edges, and the felt mat checked for correct centring on the spindle.
