Description
The Pro-Ject T1 EVO is a manual belt-drive turntable, compatible with 33 and 45 rpm with electric speed change. It comes fitted with an Ortofon OM10 Moving Magnet cartridge equipped with an elliptical diamond stylus tip, ready to play without any cartridge adjustment required.
The plinth is CNC-machined from wood, with no plastic parts, and built so as to leave no hollow space within the chassis in order to limit vibrations. The 8 mm thick sandblasted glass platter contributes to this pursuit of mechanical neutrality by avoiding the resonances typical of plastic or lightweight steel platters. The tonearm is a one-piece design made entirely of aluminium, with an integrated rather than removable headshell, paired with low-friction bearings to limit unwanted vibrations. The belt-driven motor drives a sub-platter mounted in a main bearing machined to a tolerance of 0.001 mm, with a hardened stainless steel spindle and brass bushing, for smooth rotation. Vibration-absorbing feet complete the design, and output is via stereo RCA.
This model is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts looking for a manual turntable that is ready to use straight away, without requiring cartridge fitting, and who favour careful construction using hard materials rather than plastic. It will suit a classic stereo setup, connected to a phono input or an external phono preamplifier.

What to check before buying used
The factory-fitted Ortofon OM10 cartridge warrants a check of the diamond stylus condition, which is prone to wear after extended listening hours, along with adjustment of the tracking force between 0 and 50 mN (17.5 mN recommended). The drive belt, a consumable part by nature, may stretch or crack over time and is worth inspecting if the rotation speed seems irregular. It is also worth checking that the main bearing is functioning correctly and that there is no excessive play in the one-piece tonearm.
