The RPM 10 Carbon is a high-end turntable from Pro-Ject, designed for discerning home listening. It continues the manufacturer's RPM line by pushing further the work on chassis rigidity and mechanical decoupling, with the aim of delivering groove tracking that is as quiet and stable as possible.
The chassis rests on a CNC-machined MDF base combined with resin-coated steel pellets, forming an extra-heavy sandwich construction. A specific heat treatment and a carbon surface coating are intended to reduce resonance levels. This mass-loaded chassis is decoupled from its support by means of magnetic feet, a solution that limits the transmission of external vibrations to the cartridge.
The platter, made of polished aluminium, incorporates internal TPE damping as well as a surface vinyl layer, complemented by an inverted ceramic main bearing designed to ensure stable rotation with very low rumble. Drive is handled by a heavy outboard motor, fitted with an integrated switch allowing you to switch between 33 and 45 rpm.
The Evo tonearm, 10 inches in length, stands out for its tapered carbon fibre tube and inverted bearing design, engineered to ensure precise groove tracking even with demanding cartridges. The high-quality, particularly flexible internal copper wiring contributes to lossless signal transmission along the electrical chain.
This turntable is aimed at audiophiles who already have a fully developed hi-fi system, looking for a vinyl source capable of making the most of high-end cartridges and a demanding reproduction system. What to check before buying used
The Evo tonearm's inverted bearing should rotate without any stiffness or noticeable lateral play, as an impact or fall could permanently affect its alignment. Check that the magnetic feet still provide clear decoupling and that the platter has no deep scratches on its vinyl layer or any lifting of the TPE damping. The chassis's carbon coating may mark or chip at the corners with repeated handling, and the outboard motor should start smoothly without jerking or abnormal bearing noise at both 33 and 45 rpm.
